Hello beautiful souls,
I was recently introduced to the Japanese concept of Ikigai (the convergence of your passion, your mission, your vocation and your profession). Simply put, Ikigai is the thing that gives you a sense of purpose; it brings meaning to your life.
It was my darling husband Dom, my partner in life and business, who encouraged me to walk away from a 30 year career that no longer held any joy for me, and move towards a new future by finding, and embracing, my Ikigai.
It was shortly thereafter, while driving through a Masai village in Tanzania, that I had an epiphany about how I could fulfil my desire to help improve the lives of underrepresented indigenous communities – and at the same time, introduce the world to the incredible beauty of their cultural heritage art and artisanal creations.
My professional background naturally led me into the fashion arena, with the aim of not only achieving this mission, but of creating a beautiful resort wear brand that celebrates real women and offers them something new and unique… bold, bright and distinctive print collections that are a form of wearable art.
That is how MoyoMoyo was born, and how it got its name – Moyo means “heart” in the Tanzanian language of Swahili, and it is so fitting for a brand with a purpose that comes from the heart.
Each one of our collections is based on a unique print that is a creative interpretation of indigenous heritage and cultural expression. Our designs include elements of traditional art styles, symbology and artisanal weaving techniques from different parts of the world, and we give back to these communities by partnering with NGOs on programs aimed at improving their quality of life. These include access to healthcare, education and clean drinking water.
