Why Self-Care Isn’t Just a Buzzword!

Jenni Battiss

Hello Beautiful Souls,

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded just how important it is to care for our mental well-being. Mental health challenges can show up in many forms—whether it’s feeling anxious, depressed, or simply overwhelmed by the pace of life. And while everyone’s experience is different, what we all share is the need for support and self-care.

As someone who has faced my own mental health battles (dealing with depression since my teen years and being diagnosed with bipolar several years ago), I’ve come to understand just how complex and individual these struggles can be. I don’t claim to know exactly what others are going through, but I do know that taking care of yourself, especially when you’re overwhelmed, is crucial.

In a world that often celebrates being busy and productive, it can be hard to take a step back and admit when things feel too much. But self-care is not a luxury - it’s essential.

If asking for help or prioritising your own well-being feels difficult, that’s completely normal. It’s hard to admit we need support, but reaching out - whether to a loved one, a friend, or a professional - is one of the most courageous things you can do. It’s not a sign of weakness, but a step toward healing.

So on this World Mental Health Day, take a moment for yourself. Allow yourself the space to rest and recharge. Small acts of self-care, like listening to a favorite song, enjoying a quiet moment, or simply taking a deep breath, can have a big impact.

Mental health is a journey, and it’s okay to take things one step at a time. Even on the tough days, you’re doing better than you think. Give yourself permission to care for your well-being, because you deserve it!

With heartfelt love and appreciation,
